Background

Rationale
Junior Achievement Namibia is proud of the achievements of Namibian youth! Therefore, JA Namibia declares the first week of May 2010 to be the Week of the Young Entrepreneur!

The Week of the Young Entrepreneur is a tribute to young Namibians’ potential. During the week young entrepreneurs from all regions in Namibia have the opportunity to conduct business with the larger Namibian audience. There will be a diverse range of food, drinks, games and activities, home decoration and souvenirs on offer by the Namibian youth. There will be an entertainment programme consisting of motivational speakers, cultural performances and music.
The event will be a learning opportunity for Namibian youth, and a pleasure to attend for anyone looking for a nice day in the park.

Context
Youth unemployment is nationally recognized as a large issue for Namibia.
The following quote was taken from the annual address of Mr T.K. Alweendo, Governor of the Bank of Namibia:
"While our achievements are impressive, our challenges are equally daunting. The risk is that if we do not address the challenges facing us as a matter of priority, the gains we have achieved thus far might be eroded. [...] The picture does not look any better with our efforts to reduce unemployment. [...] The sad thing is that the majority of the unemployed, about 60 percent, are the young people, especially those with little education. We must realize that prolonged youth unemployment has far reaching consequences. Youth unemployment will result into too many shattered dreams, it leads to loss of identities, and lack of zeal for life in general. The message is that we can no longer pretend that everything is in order."

Objectives
Objectives of the Week of the Young Entrepreneur are:
- To create awareness of entrepreneurship as a response to Namibia’s youth unemployment challenge
- To celebrate the successes of Junior Achievers in Namibia
- To inspire and prepare young entrepreneurs to continue their entrepreneurial activities
